- Personality: Despite having been rewired (read History), 22 kept most of her basic personality traits. She is hard-headed and stubborn. It takes patience and perseverance to teach her anything that sticks, because she's rather scatterbrained and either forgets things entirely or mixes them up. She isn't very observant, and tends to look at situations at a distance - despite being in the middle of it. Because of this, she often doesn't respond correctly to body language or machine sounds; growling, snarling, etc., do not frighten her. It isn't because she's fearless - she's far from fearless - but because she does not register the danger on a conscious level.
As far as fears go, her largest fears are the stitchpunks. Being "raised" (post-wiring) in the Factory, she came to see the machines as her family and the Fabricator as her father. The dolls were either prey or predator to the machines (she'd heard stories of both) but the thing that scared her the most is how they seem to harvest parts from anything. Because of her design, she becomes a sitting duck whenever she falls onto her side. Thus she would become the perfect target for these sneaking, stealing dolls.
Because of her seclusion, when she manages to see other machines she'll often ask for storytelling.
Despite having many personality traits that one would find in a teenager or a child, 22 is actually supported by a middle-aged soul. She only behaves this way because her previous lessons and experiences are no longer there to keep her behaving like the individual she used to be.
- (+) characteristics: friendly, curious, loyal
- (-) characteristics: easily distracted, forgetting, stubborn
History (waking up): 22 was, as her number suggests, one of the earliest dolls made. Because of interests in her previous life, she pursued similar hobbies - learning engineering skills that would benefit the world as it had become as well as dabbling in a bit of alchemy, though its logics confused her for the most part.
When the Fabricator first revealed itself to the dolls, she went looking for written notes and information about it, more out of curiosity than anything else. Being the hard-headed individual she was, she claimed she knew how to disable the thing and save everyone.
Due to a failure in studying the plans as well as bad sneaking style, she ended up in the Fabricator's clutches. Like with most of its subjects, it inspected her wiring and memories. There wasn't much of interest to be found there, except for an odd, curious notion and small amount of conceptual knowledge behind it. The Fabricator had not been introduced to alchemy of this type before - the type 22 had studied at the beginner stages prior to being captured. It decided to erase 22's mind, save for that small bit of information, and combined her with a sentient body. He kept the design extremely simple, in a way that, were she ever to drag that small bit of knowledge out and make sense of it, and it turned out to be a weapon, she would most likely be unable to use it. He kept it hidden in her mind, though, until such a time when he'd be able to study it more thoroughly.
This is one of the reasons Scottie (how she got the name is unknown, but it only arose after she had been combined with the sentient body) is kept mostly separate from the other machines as well as other lifeforms in general. She is kept in the Factory (this is the rule, at least.. her childish behavior often leads her to try and sneak out to explore). She's so fragile and harmless that allowing her to wander too much wound end up with her dead.
Because she only learned the conceptual starting points of alchemy (something most people don't stop at; all individuals that dare call themselves alchemists extend their knowledge in vast directions, expanding on the starting points), the knowledge locked away in her head holds promise for new and interesting ways alchemy could possibly be developed. This is what the Fabricator is interested in.
In the meantime, though, she is used as a translator between the Fabricator and any of its subjects that do not know the machine dialect. She always performs this job from somewhere hidden or high up, because her fear of stitchpunks would override her ability to fulfill this duty if she were forced to be too close to them.
