"You'll be sore for a while, I'm afraid."
"A while" was actually a huge understatement. 70 was unsure of exactly how long it would take 17 to completely recover. She had suffered more in her lifetime than most ragdolls that were still alive to tell about it. Torn apart, resurrected, crushed, fixed, ripped open..Poor kid.
70 approached her again, smiling as much as he could. There was still a heaviness about his spirit. What was he doing? Was he really taking this child in? He had no right to be a father. He didn't know where to begin. Could he live with dragging her into his life..his mistakes, his vices? Could he care for her? Could he..Could he love her like a father ought?

17 flickered her optics at 70's smile, having it be the biggest one she'd seen from him since they'd met. She wanted to remember it, just in case she'd never see one like it again. The child closed her optics a moment and had her small smile expand a little, satisfied that her father looked happy. She couldn't sense whatever was bothering him. She just loved that smile.
"A-As loooonnngg aaasssss IIII g-get beeeetter..." She said, opening her optics into an innocent gaze. "IIIIIII doooon't m-mind..."
Something had suddenly shooken her, and 17's smile dissappeared. She remembered something.
Caroline. She was there when 17 first woke up...then 17 wandered into the Emptiness on her own and left Caroline behind without a word. That's when she ran into the others...Lockjaw...and 70.
Was Caroline worried? Was Caroline even alive? Did she even remember 17? What would Caroline say when she finds out that she'd been around a Rogue, and staying in the Shambles? What would she say about her condition now, after all this change? She felt terrible.

Feeling both conflicted and moved, 70 crawled onto the bed in front of 17 and pulled her into a close embrace, his hand on the back of her head. He smiled against her shoulder, but his brows were furrowed. He wanted to hold her. He hadn't..hadn't held anyone in a long time. Not romantically, not in a platonic sense. Not at all. Deep down, 70 wanted someone. Someone to love. Someone to love him..
The doctor kissed her forehead and got up. He acted like he wasn't having these turmoils. Instead her straightened the pillows around 17. "You didn't..have any belonging in the Cathedral, did you?" 70 wanted her to have everything she needed to make her feel home. Of course, it was kind of a loaded question. It pretty much said, "If you say 'yes', I'll go get it for you".

She felt safe in 70's embrace, her smile returning just a moment. She felt so at home here enough as it was. She couldn't ask 70 to do any more for her, he'd do so much for her already. To ask anything else of him, 17 would feel that she was being the most rude doll to ever walk the face of the apocolyptic earth.
17 thought for a moment, thinking if she had anything at the Cathedral. She didn't remember she'd even mentioned being at the Cathedral to 70.
"N-Noooooooo..." Her voice trailed off. "I juuuusttt...feeel badddd...I...I llleeeefft Caaaarrolllinnne beeehinnnnd.." Pausing for a moment, 17 adjusted herself on the pillow. "Sheee...wass therre when IIIII woooke up...Th......Thenn..." The child gave a soft cry. "IIIII weeent innnto thhhee Emptinnessss wiiiithhhouttt tellinnng herrr...Aaaand IIII gottt lossst...! I...I..." She hiccuped, her shoulders heaving. "IIIII saww Locckjawww...annd goot smaaashed...thaaat'sss hoooow I fouuundd you..."

70 could tell that it upset her to talk about. He went back to hugging her, letting her cry on his shoulder if necessary, rubbing her back tenderly. "Shh, it's okay. It's okay." he murmured to her. He didn't know anything about this "Caroline". Few dolls have actual names, as opposed to numbers. He thought he knew most of the dolls in the alignments, too. Apparently his list - and his memory - was lacking.
"..If you want to go tell her what happened..When you're well...I will go with you." That wasn't the smartest idea. Saviors came into certain parts of the Rogue's territory all the time - but it was much more uncommon for a Rogue to tread upon Savior grounds, let alone in their oh-so-wonderful cathedral. Who knew what they would do to him if he showed up on their doorstep?

She cried on her father's shoulder for a long time, not just because of her feeling bad for Caroline - For all the pain she's had to endure because of her own actions. Because of all the things that she had people do for her without meaning it. Her curiosity killed her because of that book. Her curiosity got her crushed, as well as torn apart.
17 wished that she wasn't so curious.
But when 70 said that she could see Caroline, the little girl finally cheered up a little.
"C-....Caan weeee?" She said, some excitement coming into her glitchy voice. Her small innocent smile began to return as she pushed off of 70's shoulder to look at him in the optics. "O-Okkkkayyy - Wh-Whennn I'mmmm bettterrrr!" She wrapped her small sore arms around his neck, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Th...Thaaaaannk youuu D-Daaaaaaaaaadddyyyyyyyy...!"

Even though it was very awkward, 70 let her cry. Sometimes you just needed to cry. And 17 had plenty of reason to. She seemed to brighten when 70 said that they could go see this Caroline person. She kissed and thanked him, prompting a pleasant expression from 70, even if it wasn't totally a smile. "Of course, 17." he mused.
At the same time, though he was wondering what he was getting himself into. Offering to go to the Cathedral. He detested most Saviors. He would be going to their home as a Rogue and on..a visit? Madness. Before 17, it would have never been a notion at all. And now that it was, it was still crazy.

17 let go of his neck, sitting down in front of him with an innocent smile, her optics widening just slightly larger than usual, her childlike nature softening how serious her injuries were.
"Sh-Sheeee's soooo niiiiceee...IIIII reeaaallly liiiikkkee theee piiiinnnnk thiingg shhee wearrrs...whaaaat's it caaaalled..oooh, a cloooaaaak." She began, trying to explain Caroline the best she could in the short time the child had known her. "Herrrr ooooptiiic lennnnnses arreee sooo biiiiig, buuuut theeeey're nooot scaaaaaryyyy." She continued on, talking about how Caroline had found her in the Cathedral. For a little child that had been hurt, she was getting pretty chatty. She realized this and stopped a moment, looking up to 70 with curious optics.
"Whaaaaaat ellllse dooo youuu dooo heerrre...?" She decided to ask.

70 couldn't help but feel a little slap of jealousy as 17 bragged on Caroline. Not that she wasn't allowed to have a fondness for others, but it just..he didn't know. He had no reason to feel inferior or anything. As far as he knew. Her curious look stopped his thoughts, and turned them to thinking about her question.
What did he do here?
"I mostly just sleep here. I'm usually away. Sometimes I get to work on..'projects' -" he gestured to his messy workbench. "But..not a lot. Like I said, I'm usually out."

17 gazed at the cloth that was draped over the project on the workbench. She wanted to know what it was. She was also curious of the cloth, what was it for? Did 70 not want her to see? Was it to keep dust from getting onto the project?
She turned her head back to her father.
"Youuuuuu could aaaaalwaaayyys tryyy too finnnd nnnew thiiingggs to doooo." She explained. "Theeerrre's gotttaaaaa beeeee moooorrreee at liiiiiiiiifeee..." She shifted on the pillow again. She seemed to be more animated than the day before.
"Whaaaaat kiiiinddd offf prooojectts do youuu dooooo...? Annnnd whhhyyy aaaarrree youuu goooone a looooooot?"

70 folded his arms. "I make things. For fixing dolls." He pointed to her replaced leg. "Those don't come from nothing, you know." The truth was that they were salvaged parts - but he did have to make repairs and some size modifications. "And other things." He didn't want to get specific about what he did.
"I'm usually gone finding materials, being a field medic, and stuff like that." He smirked. "Doctors never rest."
70 was resistant to finding new things to spend his time on - he was quite content doing what he was made for - or so he told himself. So he ignored the suggestion.

17's eyes became more curious than before, but she felt a little bad when 70 folded his arms. Did she upset him? She rubbed her replaced leg with her new hand, noticing that the colors on her new hand were opposite of her original one - The fingertips were a brown instead of new copper color, and her palm was a goldish tint. She thought that was interesting. She gazed back at 70, trying to change the subject. It sounded like he didn't want to talk much about what else he could do.
"Wh-Wheeeeeeen I'mmm betttterrr..." She started. "Coullllllddd I goooo wiiiithhh youuuu ouuuutttsiiiiiide...?"

70 smirked a little at the question. "Well, I certainly can't leave you alone, can I?" That was his way of saying 'yes' without really saying it. He cared a lot for 17, but that didn't mean he wanted to be too much of a big softie. He smile deepened. "You really want to be a medic, too?"
It was time to confirm this. If she really wanted to learn, he would teach her. Maybe then she could eventually be able to do her own repairs if he wasn't there to. And, I mean, really. There wasn't anyone better to learn under than him. He was the best there was.

17 thought for a moment. She wasn't much of a fan of the "blood and gore" of Stitchpunks, but when they needed help, they seriously needed it. There were only a few people that could help. The more help, the better. There would be parts everywhere and it wouldn't be pleasant. But the child nodded.
"Y-Yesssssss..." She said, a littly shyly. C'mon, she had to be bolder than that. "Y-Yes." She said a little louder, which more confidence.

70 nodded, and looked quite pleased, actually. Being reclusive, the satisfaction he got from 17's desire to follow in his footsteps was unexpected. "Glad to hear it." he said with another bit of a smile. "When you've healed more, I'll start teaching you. For now, you'll have to settle for reading my books. The cataloging nature of your optics should make that easier than it would be for most."
"Don't worry," he said, "I think you'll be a fast learner."
